Lou Doillon has a famous mother and half sister. Her mother isactress/singer Jane Birken and her sister is another actress/singer Charlotte Gainsbourg. Not only is she a top model but musician and artist. This song showcases her unique singing style.
Another group that entered the NPR contest is Monsterboy, a wife and husband team that vibe. With Chris's smooth singing remniscent of singers from the late 1960's and early 70's and guitar melodies along with his wife's sax, they make a great blend of music.
Trevor and the Joneses are an underground band from the West Coast. Super talented, Trevor is actually a really nice guy who corresponds now and then with us. He is influenced heavily by Brian Jonestown Massacre a classic group that have a huge cult following.
Australia has a lot of great artists, like Courtney Barnett and Jen Cloher just to name a few. Check them out if you've never heard of them. Courtney actually has been getting a lot of fame within the last few years internationally. Well here's another mover band from Australia, Clews. The band is made up of two sisters and they sound like a harder edged Sharon Van Etten, an artist that has a great sound from the US. Check them out!
Usually the people at NPR's taste runs contrary to mine but this is one singer-songwriter that has a great voice and very deep lyrics. He's Joe Holt. By all rights he should be in the running for the win but NPR always throws a surprise when picking a winner. Anyway, Joe Holt has a very polished and easy on the ears voice and sound. Enjoy the song.
